Prom Dress Donations – Donated Prom Dresses For Students Without Extra Funds

For students without extra funds, they don’t have the option of buying a dress or suit or renting a tuxedo for the junior-senior prom. Now, two groups are collecting donated prom dresses and other items so their night is a special one, too.

First, the Prom Committee at St. Stephens High School is trying to change all that with its Prom Closet project. To help make every students’ prom A Night to Remember, the school’s prom theme this year, the Committee is collecting donations of formal gowns, men’s suits or donations for tuxedo rentals or dress purchases. These items will be given to boys and girls who have a financial need at our school, said organizer Lori Eckard, a St. Stephens High School teacher and Prom Committee adviser. Any excess dresses and suits collected will go to other area high schools for students who also have prom needs.

To date, the Committee has collected 30 dresses. All donated clothing can be dropped off in Room 306, Eckard’s classroom, at the school. Checks for monetary donations can be made out to St. Stephens High School with a designation for the Prom Committee.

Students interested in donated gowns and suits should contact Eckard, a St. Stephens HS guidance counselor or any of the Prom Committee Advisers. The first shopping day when students can make selections from donated items will be this Thursday, February 27, after school.

Area businesses are already helping with the cause. Dockside Deli Catering is providing heavy hor deouerves for prom attendees, because not all the students will be able to afford eating out that night. Gregory Formal Wear is donating one tuxedo rental to a student plus 15-percent off other student rentals closer to prom time. In addition, Fashion Mart has handed out coupons for 15-percent discounts off clothing purchases or tuxedo rentals. For every card turned in, the store will give $3 back to the St. Stephens High School Prom Committee.
