Seventeen magazine picks Briarwood for fashion show displaying prom dresses for 2004

Seventeen magazine has picked Briarwood in Ann Arbor as one of only five shopping centers nationwide to host its Seventeen Prom Fashion Show.

The free show will also feature one of the country's first live performances by Eden's Crush, the hot new girl band from the WB Network show Popstars.

The band, which includes Rosanna Tavarez, who studied dance at the University of Michigan, will perform its No. 1 single hit 'Get Over Yourself.' All of the band members will sign autographs at Briarwood's Record Town, in the Sears corridor, after their performance.

Everyone attending the show will receive prom goody bags filled with samples and coupons. Redken and MAC will offer free makeovers after the show. In addition, Bevin Karl, Seventeen's retail merchandising editor, will host the show and answer questions on teen trends and hot prom fashions for 2001. Briarwood is the only Midwestern location for the popular fashion show, which will is also scheduled for Houston, Los Angeles, Tampa and Charlotte, N.C.

'This is a real feather in Briarwood's and Ann Arbor's cap,' observes Liz Margolis, Briarwood marketing director. 'Not only are we one of only five places in the country picked by one of the country's top teen magazines, this will also be one of Eden's Crush's first live shows. Those who attend will be able to tell their friends around the country that they saw them first in Ann Arbor.'

The Fashions

This year's hottest prom attire, according to more than a dozen Briarwood retailers participating in the Seventeen fashion showcase, go in several directions:

Punk Funk - Think early Madonna. Black leather and lace, slashes, studs, spiked boots, big hair and neon makeup.

Fabulous 50s - Vintage Doris Day. Poodle skirts, halter tops, cardigan sweaters, pearls, flowers, hair buns and clutch purses.

Precious Metals - Rhinestone prom queen. Long, form-fitting shiny dresses, dangle earrings, strappy heels and crystal tattoos.

Fairytale Fantasy - Prince Charming's date. Pastel, empire-waist dresses, bustier tops and tiaras.

Black & White - Formal elegance. Tuxedo-inspired dresses, white boas, masks with feathers and long gloves.

Bright Nights - LOUD. Hot pinks, vivacious oranges, outrageous violets.

'We're expecting lots of moms and dads too,' says Margolis. 'It's the ideal way to find out what the kids will be wearing prom night - and to see why their kids are so excited about Eden's Crush.'
